About Jevves

You can trust Jevves. He is the world's first search engine that cannot write. He can only decide.

In 1997 a butler named Jeeves would answer any question typed into a box, by pointing at web pages. He was retired in 2006. This is not him. This is Jevves, and he is a good deal stranger.

How it works

Behind the box is Jev, a "System One" decision model from TypeSafe AI. Jev does not generate text at all. You hand it some context and a typed question, and it returns a typed decision with a calibrated probability, in one forward pass, in about the time it takes to blink.

So Jevves cannot write an answer. Every sentence he says was written in advance by a person. When you ask something, Jev is asked, all at once:

• which of fourteen kinds of question this is (a decision, a prediction, a matter of the heart, an impertinence, and so on);
• whether the honest answer is yes or no, as a probability, which picks a rung on a ladder of verdicts that begins with the twenty Magic 8-Ball phrases and goes downhill from there;
• which of that category's pre-written remarks would be funniest as his reply;
• what he makes of your question, on a five-star scale and in a word or two;

The percentage shown is Jev's own confidence. The stars are its honest opinion of your question. Answers are cached for a day, so the same question gets the same answer, like a proper reference work.

Privacy

Your question is sent to the model provider so that it can be decided upon, and a normalised copy is held in a cache for up to 24 hours. No accounts exist and no advertising is served. Cloudflare provides hosting and sees what any host sees.
